History
In January 2004, the ISA Executive Committee endorsed the full judging development program proposed by Surfing Australia.
This comprehensive judging program has been identified as the worlds’ best practice in the development of quality accredited officials. The accreditation course was endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission in 2006.
The ISA are committed to the continued success of surfing as a sport worldwide and recognize the need for one accreditation course. The quality and credibility of every competition hinges on the education of our officials. International Judging and Officiating Courses are regularly being conducted throughout the ISA surfing World.
There are currently 18 countries that are our partners in World wide Judging development. The number is continuing to grow as many Surfing Associations and Federations realise the importance of parallel development of the officials and the sport.
All ISA courses and registration fees are budgeted to provide a financial return to all parties involved in preparation, administration and delivery.
New Accreditation guidelines:
Level 1 Judges
Each course participant that completes the “International Judging and Officiating course will automatically achieve a Level 1 International Judge accreditation.
Level 2 Judges
After the course participant has completed the 20 hours of experience they will be accredited with a Level 2 International Judge accreditation.
Level 3 Judges & Head Judges
The highest level is a Level 3 International Judge; this level should be for your Head Judges and judges of the highest experience such as ISA and ASP events.
The ISA International Judges Register Program
All judges that complete the full International Judging & Officiating course are registered as ISA International Judges. All International accredited and registered judges are eligible to officiate at all ISA and Licensed countries and their sanctioned events.
To maintain International accreditation and registration each judge is required to pay a NGB registration fee each calendar year. This is managed and administered by each Licensed NGB.
All International judges are registered on the ISA International register/Data base for 1 year and will receive the Official ISA International Judges’ ID card for the current calendar year. (Managed by Surfing Australia)
The International Judges Exchange Program
Every International Level 2 & 3 accredited and registered judge is eligible for the International Judges exchange program. This program will operate between licensed countries and is a valuable opportunity to travel and officiate through out the ISA surfing world.
