COMPETITION FORMAT:
Competitors enter the water for a set period of time, usually 15 minutes. Competitors must wear the coloured rash vest allocated to them.
The heats are started by the sounding of a siren and by the raising of a green disc. With 5 minutes to go a yellow disc will be raised.
At the end of the heat the disc will be in neutral, plus the siren will be sounded twice. Please note that 2 heats will be surfed at all times, so surfers should be aware of how the draw is progressing and make sure they are ready to compete at the specified time.
Competitors are not allowed to catch any more waves after their heat has ended otherwise they will be penalised. Also, please remember to return your vest to Contest Control.
During the heat, the surfer will be scored on their best 2 or 3 rides.
Competitors are not allowed to interfere with one another during the heat. If there is someone else already riding on the wave you are not allowed to take off. If in any doubt about competition protocol, please consult the Beach Marshall.
The top two surfers from each heat progress through to the following round, with progressions being decided by the same format used during the World Championships. This may mean that competitors from the same institution surf in the same heat.
As the tournament progresses, please check the running order with the Beach Marshall, as this is subject to change due to weather etc.
NO FREE SURFING IN THE CONTEST AREA DURING THE EVENT, IF IT OCCURS IT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF THE OFFENDING SURFER. |
