BRITISH JUNIOR SURF TEAM BUST OUT IN CALIFORNIA
(BEST EVER RESULT 9th PLACE)

The British Junior surf team achieved the best ever result in the World Championships (the World Junior Surfing Games - the Olympics of Surfing) by breaking into the top ten and recording a massive nineth place. A weeks long contest involving 28 countries and over 300 competitors saw some impressive displays from the 12 strong British Team. Beth Mason 16 from Swansea led the way with 22nd finish contributing 375 ponts to the team total, equalling that achievemet was Jayce Robinson 15 from St.Ives who also finished 22nd.

British Team manager Paul Jeffery said that he was proud to be apart of the record breaking Team, "they're a bunch of really nice kids who have worked really hard with the coaches while they've been here", he added, "they totally deserve this epic result which give us a platform to work on for the contest next year in Brazil".

Despite beening a fast growing sport involving and estimated 2.5m participants in the UK and contibuting the second highest income to the south west economy ($65m), the National Governing Body (BSA) recieves absolutly no funding from Government, the Sports Council or the lottery and the young memebers of the under 18 team had to raise the funds to compete themselves.

The contest was a close run affair between Hawaii, Australia, USA and Brazil for the Team trophy with Hawaii finally coming out on top.
