Although he has made a household name for himself as a singer songwriter, Jack Johnson started out as a professional surfer – and his first creative work was as co-producer of a 45 minute film documentary ‘Thicker Than Water’ in 1999.
This new Collectors Edition contains a wealth of new material including three new Jack Johnson tracks ‘Cricket’, ‘Carnival’ and ‘Sandbar’. In addition there is a bonus 20 minutes of unseen footage, a photo gallery of stills taken by Chris Malloy and Todd Messick, and directors’ commentary from Johnson and the Malloys….

Thicker Than Water won SURFER Magazine's Video of the Year Award in 1999 for its unique portrayal of surfers, and the beauty and impact that a simple pursuit chasing waves can have. Today, 5 years after its release, it's still hailed by critics around the world, which is why Johnson and his friends Chris and Emmett Malloy have decided to release the long awaited Collectors Edition DVD.
A graduate in film from the University Of California, Johnson followed ‘Thicker Than Water’ with another production ‘September Sessions’ that also garnered award-winning acclaim. These films helped fuel and develop Johnson’s songwriting success that followed, with the hit albums ‘Brushfire Fairytales’ and ‘On and On’. In fact, his first audiences as a singer were the very surfers he was shooting for the film, and the faces, the places and the imagery he captured on film in ‘Thicker Than Water’ were the creative fuel that inspired all of his later works, which is why this film, more than anything else he's done, remains the best look into Johnson himself. | |

Jack Johnson was born in 1975, near Haleiwa, on the North Shore of Oahu,
Jack began surfing the North Shore's Pipeline at age 10.
By 17, he made the finals at the Pipe trials, becoming the youngest ever to do at the time.
Jack suffered a near death experience Surfing Pipe at age 17 and While recovering, he pursued his interest in film making and soon became a surf film director, photographer,
producer and Music composer
Jack has played the guitar since he was 14 and being brought up with influences such as Nick Drake, Ben Harper, the Beatles, Bob Marley, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, and A Tribe Called Quest
