British Junior Squad arrives in France for Squad training, courtesy of Calypso and Brittany Ferries
The Great Britain Junior Surf team has arrived in France for their week’s intensive training regime in Hossegor. The squad are staying at Kevin Olsen Surf House, and will be receiving different types of coaching from specialist coaches, including speed and agility, strength and conditioning as well as technical surfing
The training camp which has been funded by Calypso, producers of Aqua Juice 67 and ferry travel provided by Brittany Ferries, is essential in preparing the team for the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships in New Zealand in January 2010 Gabi Rowe, member of the GB squad told us, “I feel really proud to have the opportunity to represent Great Britain and privileged to receive this training. Its cool to be here, in great waves with the whole squad”
“The conditions for this week are forecast to be excellent – 4-6 foot swell with offshore conditions” said Mike Young, Head Surf Coach “This is comparable to Piha, in NZ, so it gives us a good platform to work from. We wanted to bring them away from their home environment so we can keep them focused and really work upon their strengths and weaknesses"
Mark Wesson of the British Surfing Association told us “It’s fantastic that we have the sponsorship from Calypso and Brittany Ferries to fully fund this trip and give the squad a different type of training experience that that may be used to. We are using this oppurtunity to introduce the type of training and structure that the BSA will be using as the blue print for all future squad training sessions Watch the BSA website for daily updates on how the squad are progressing www.britsurf.co.uk
